(yes, clutching at straws but you never know.) One final thought - when you test with a third party magic packet generator, have you sent one packet or have you also tried sending the same packet consecutively while the machine is powering up? I am wondering if a stray WOL packet could be causing an unexpected or unhandled interrupt to the processor if received while the first WOL event is still being handled. I would therefore suggest that you also open a conversation with the motherboard manufacturer in case they can shed any light on possible causes of this problem, as my instinct tells me that there could be a bug in the bios. It's like finding that I can flick the switch in my front room and the light comes on, whereas when my wife flicks the same switch, but the light does not come on.

MAGIC PACKET SENDER WINDOWS 7 GENERATOR
If, for some reason, the power supply is not turning on fully, and one or more of the voltage rails is remaining off, then perhaps the processor is not getting all the power feeds it needs and is consequently hanging.Īs WOL is an "on - off" switch, I cannot understand why one magic packet generator works and another magic packet generator does not. If this is a correct understanding, have you left the apparently hung machine to its own devices for, say, 30 minutes to see if any error messages are eventually displayed? Can you hear if the hard disk is spinning up and any case cooling fans come on when the machine is sent a WOL packet from Ghost? If the machine is powering up upon receipt of the Ghost packet then WOL is working, but I am at a loss to explain why the bios is hanging. When you send a WOL packet from Ghost, the machine changes from a power down state to a power up state, but instead of booting to hard disk, the machine appears to hang. Just to make sure I understand the sequence of events correctly, when you send a WOL packet using a third party utility, the machine changes from a power down state to a power up state and then boots correctly to its hard disk.

I am unfamiliar with the DH55TC motherboard - who is it made by and what bios version are you running on it? It is an Award bios or is the bios author unspecified?
